Coffee table make-over

I built a table y'all.

Not really, we just put a new "old" top on it.

This table has been about 100 different colors. It was also a chalk table which proved to be quite the primer for the many coats of paint that followed it. Which was a prime factor in my decision to quit trying to scrape paint off of it and just start fresh.

How fun was it to find this gem when we took the top off of it.

Fun fact: My grandpa built this table in highschool so as rickety as it may be I'm kind of partial to it and want to try and keep it in the living room (or another room) as much as we can. Adding a new top sturdied it up a tad.. not much, but a tad. ;)

This picture makes me laugh, it's like he's promoting himself. I'M DRIVEN. Dork.

To make the faux pallet top we just used some wood from Home Depot, I picked a thickness that wouldn't look too ridiculous but not too thin that it would warp. In my head I swore I took more pictures of the actual process but maybe it all happened so fast I blacked out. Who knows, but I have nothing to show you!

Imagine this.

We put the pieces of wood on the table frame like a puzzle piece. Now, Mr. Home Depot who made the cuts for us wasn't quite procise so we just did the best we could and sawed a straight edge at the end. Don't worry about it. Imperfections are what antiques are made of, how else are you going to make your "new" table look old? Don't sweat the small stuff. It's not all level, there's a hair or two off in spots and I'm a-okay with that. Because it's NOT a flat top. It has gaps, ridges, etc. Just sand it down smooth and stain away.

Then decide later what color you're going to paint it. Try blue on two legs for good measure. Then leave it alone for 3 weeks of course. ;)

The best part?

Castors!

These babies were 2 bucks a pack at the store and they were calling my name. I think they're adorable. We haven't had any problem with the table shifting because of the carpet but you could get castors with stoppers on them if you just wanted the look. We however like to have random dance parties in the living room and table moving is a must.

Things are a changin' in the living room. And, I like where it's going.

Feature Yourself Friday

Feature Yourself Friday has been a little sporatic around here.

I blame it on the summer, I do.

I really hate to just put up the link every week without featuring some, it kind of defeats my purpose, but that's what I keep doing because we get caught up doing something and I run out of time. I'm thinking about doing a Feature Yourself Friday twice a month until September. This way you still have a place to party hardy, and I don't get bitter about it. ;)

Speaking of busy Thursday nights..

This is what we did LAST night.

Also known as the scariest night of my life. She fell off the monkey bars which landed us in the e.r for quite some time last night. Checking on her over and over last night.. and all smiles today. She landed on her back though so the black eye baffles me. But we've taught her to just say "You should see the other guy!" when she gets her 1000's of questions. ;)

Our shenanigans are also on instagram.. Naturally, if you'd like to follow us we're FotfBlog

So, your turn. Party on peeps, party on!

Urban Frontiers

I've spoke about my friend Jeni before but today I want to talk about her again while I've got birthdays on the brain. :) She's done our birthday cards every year since we "met" and it usually goes something like this.

Pick out a cute card.

Plan the whole theme around said card. :)

Case in point.. Monkey Birthday party. I have a thing for sock monkeys and when I saw this sock monkey card I knew we had to make it work. We let them "monkey around" at the gym for a while and the kids had.a.ball.

Then recently (okay last year.. I still haven't blogged it and half the pictures from it are gone, fail blogger.) we had a rainbow themed party after seeing this little diddy.

You can't see the cupcake toppers because the girls pulled them off to put mounds of SUGAR AND JUNK on them, but Jeni also offers up collections to go with her cards. Serious steal and if I had all the good pictures of it you could enjoy it more. Lily girl kept most of it and will still play with them when we bake. Because any cupcake looks better with a topper.

Obviously once you have your theme you can run with it. Check out pinterest.. Look at all the ideas I found based on some of her cards.

Rainbows..

Here's some other favorites of mine right now.

She also does bridal shower invites.

She did wedding invites for my friends DIY bash last summer. :) Don't you love having a go-to chick? She does custom invites too without batting an eye. I'll message her at 10pm last minute and boom. Girlfriends got it done the next day. And, probably only cusses me out a little bit for last minute notices. ;) But seriously, cute stuff. She also doesn't pay me to say so. Which is a bonus. Just wanted to share because I love her. As much as I love this darn amazing baby shower invite.

It almost makes me want to have another baby just so I can have another shower.. I mean, a third shower is okay right? When the invite is this cute it is.

So her shop is Urban Frontiers and you should DEFINITELY check her out. I can't wait to show you what party we're having this year. :)
